Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Técnicas de Gipuzkoa (CEIT)

CEIT (Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Técnicas de Gipuzkoa) is a private multidisciplinary non-profit research centre closely connected to TECNUN, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Navarra (Spain). Its mission is to provide the industry with services through the development or technical research projects and to form young researchers and PhD students. CEIT has a staff of 296 employees.

CEIT has been involved in 15 FP6 projects (funded), having the role of coordinator in 2 of them. The centre is now working on FP7 projects and actions; up to now, CEIT has been involved in 16 FP7 projects (funded), having the role of coordinator in 2 of them.

CEIT plays an important role in eMobility Technology Platform (having a member in the Steering Committee), Networked and Electronic Media, Artemis and ENIAC.

At present CEIT consists of three departments (Materials, Applied Mechanics and Electronics and Electronics and Communications) and two R&D Units (Unit on Microelectronics and Environmental Engineering Unit). In the SMARTHEART project, the Department of Electronics and Communications will be involved.

The Electronic and Communications Department of CEIT is composed of 79 people. It has research interests in codification, equalization, signal processing and design of Integrated Circuits (IC) for wireless technologies. It has designed ICs for Digital Radio, GPS, WLAN, UWB, RFID and wireless sensors for remote monitoring of patients.

In EMMON project, the role of CEIT is related with the node’s hardware, where the best option must be designed, keeping in mind some keys like power consumption, cost, etc.

This project has been supported by European Regional Development Fund and Industry, Tourism and Commerce Ministry of Spain inside of the National Plan of Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation 2008-2011.
